Cookies and browser storage

Version 1.3 · Effective 18 October 2026

Not reviewed by a lawyer. We wrote this text ourselves and keep it true to what the site does; no lawyer has checked it.

Ownwise uses one cookie, only to keep you signed in, and keeps your progress and settings in your browser. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party cookies, and the site loads no scripts, fonts or images from other sites.

1. The cookie

Name
pl_session
What for
Keeps you signed in. It holds a random code; the server keeps only its hash.
When it is set
When you create an account or sign in. Visitors without an account get no cookie.
How long
30 days, extended while you use the site. Signing out deletes it.
Protection
Page scripts cannot read it (HttpOnly); sent only to this site (SameSite=Lax) and only over HTTPS (Secure).

The server software of our hosting (Hoster.KZ) sets no cookies. Our e-mails, sent through Resend, have no tracking pixels or tracked links. While the site is closed for testing, your browser asks for a test name and password and remembers them until you close it; this is the browser's own sign-in (HTTP authentication), not a cookie, and it is not linked to your account.

2. What the site keeps in your browser

Pages save some data in your browser's storage (local storage). It stays on your device; the server sees it only when you are signed in and the page saves your progress to your profile, or when you choose to move guest progress into an account.

Browser storage entries
EntryWhat it keepsUntil
practiceLab.v1.attempt.<block>, practiceLab.v1.notes.<block>, practiceLab.v1.business.<block>Without an account: your progress, notes and "Your business" numbers in each block. You press "Start over" or delete the notes or numbers, move them into an account, or clear the site data in your browser.
practiceLab.v1.u.<account id>.…With an account: a copy of your progress, notes and numbers on this device, so that the block works without a connection and saves changes later; which changes are saved; your choice to keep guest progress in this browser only. You sign out on this device, or clear the site data.
practiceLab.v1.accountWho was signed in last on this device (account id, name, e-mail, role, whether the e-mail is confirmed), so that pages show your account at once. You sign out, or clear the site data.
practiceLab.v1.themeLight or dark mode, if you chose one.You clear the site data.
practiceLab.v1.probeA test entry to check that the browser lets the site save progress.Removed at once.
ownwise.homeSeen (session storage)That you have seen the home page in this tab, so that coming back from another page opens it at the end of the video. You close the tab.

3. Where a visit came from: not stored

If the link you followed has the labels utm_source, utm_campaign or utm_content (for example "instagram"), the page reads them from the address, removes them from the address bar and keeps them only while the page is open. They go with two of our own events, "Start free" and the first "Block started", and with the links you follow on the way to a block. Nothing about them is written into your browser's storage or into a cookie, and they are not sent to anyone else.

4. Why there is no cookie banner

The cookie and the storage entries above are needed for what you ask the site to do: to stay signed in, to keep your progress and to remember the mode you chose. The law does not require consent for such strictly necessary storage, but it asks us to tell you about it — that is this page. If we ever add anything that is not strictly necessary, we will ask you first.

5. How to remove it

  • Sign out: the cookie and the copy of your profile on this device are deleted.
  • In a block, "Start over" and the delete buttons for notes and numbers remove that data.
  • Your browser settings can delete all data of this site. Without an account, this deletes your progress for good.

More about your data: Privacy Policy.

No ads and no third-party tracking. We count a few events on this site's own server, such as a block started or finished, to see how the course is used; without an account they carry no name or id. Without an account, your progress stays in this browser. With an account, it is also saved in your profile, and one cookie keeps you signed in.
